The Confederation of African Football CAF, has released a list of 30 footballers nominated for the 2016 African Player of The Year award, with #Africa’s most decorated footballer of all-time, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o Fils featured
on the list. Eto'o who currently plays for Turkish
club, Antalyaspor, has won the award four times-in 2003, 2004, 2005 and
2010. This time around, he competes among others with his fellow
Cameroonian footballer, Benjamin Mounkandjo who plays for European club, Lorient.

Also featured on the list of nominees is Ghanaian footballer
Andre Ayew who currently plays for English club, West Ham. He has been
nominated for an award his father, Abedi Pele Ayew won three times in
his career. He moved to West Ham from Swansea last year for a £20.5
million three-year contract. He is the only Ghanaian to be nominated for
this year’s award.
#Nigeria’s Mikel Obi has also been nominated for the award. John Mikel Obi currently plays for Chelsea FC. He emerged 2nd for the African Player of The Year Award in
2013 when Ivory Coast’s Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba won first and
third place respectively. Two other Nigerians are also on this year’s
list- Ahmed Musa (Leicester City) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City).
Three players represent Ivory Coast
Three Ivory Coast players, Eric Bailly (Manchester
United; Serge Aurier (PSG) and Yao Kouasi Gervais ‘Gervinho’ (Hebei
Fortune) have also been nominated for the award. Also on the list of 30
nominees published today are Tunisia's Aymen Abdennour who also plays
for the Italian club, Valencia, Cedric Bakambu of DR Congo who currently
plays for Villareal. Dennis Onyango of Uganda, Khama Billiat of
Zimbabwe, etc.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon, who emerged as
the best player in the last African Cup of Nations, also made the list
of nominees for the 2016 Africa Player of The Year Award. So too did
Algeria's Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City), Kenya's Victor Wanyama
(Tottenham), Mehdi Benatia of Morocco (Juventus), and several others.
