Two Separatist Fighters Killed while Attacking Gendarmerie Post

There are reports that two alleged separatist fighters have been gunned to death by security and defence forces during fighting in Mundemba, Ndian division in the Southwest region of Cameroon.

According to reports by journalducameroun, the two were part of a group of assailants that attempted to attack a local gendarmerie brigade.

The clash occurred on Tuesday February 20, 2018 as fighting is yet to abate between Cameroonian security forces and fighters loyal to separatists especially in the Southwest region of the country.

                                  

We learned from the same source that at about 8:30am that day, about twenty individuals attempted an attack on the Mundemba gendarmerie brigade and that in the course of executing their machination, they were spotted by the commander of another brigade whose building is just adjacent to that of the gendarmerie brigade.

He immediately opened fire and then appealed to the Mundemba-based naval battalion.

The reaction was spontaneous. Two assailants fell under the gunfire of the military, some of whom left in pursuit of the other unidentified members of the group.

Our source did not however report on whether or not there were casualties on the part of security and defence forces.

Tensions have known the Southwest region by name ever since the head of state promised tougher sanctions against secessionists in his latest state of the nation’s address.
