The Minister of Agriculture Henri Eyebe Ayissi has challenged the new board chair of Cameroon Development Corporation Honourable Chief Justice Benjamin Motanga Itoe to work with the
management of the corporation to double the effort in improving on the profit margin of C.D.C so that the corporation will
continue to stand tall in the country development drive. Henri Eyebe
Ayissi was speaking recently at the C.D.C board room Bota as he
installed the formal Minister of justice into his function. The Minister
call on the chairman of the board of directors to ensure the successful
institutional technical and financial restructuring of the C.D.C which happens to be the
second largest employer after the state with a work force of 20,358
workers. He invited Benjamin Itoe to ensure that C.D.C remains a
responsible corporate body by acting in the interest of the population
and avoiding interest of conflict and also to use his long years of
experience to make C.D.C surpass its challenges. Minister Henri Eyebe
said C.D.C which is considered as the economic life wire of the South West Region has an important strategic economic and social role in
Cameroon in general with the North west and Littoral. He added that with a surface area of 42000 hecter, C.D.C
produces three main crops being banana, rubber and oil palm. He expresses regrets
that despite the great economic important to the country, C.D.C has been
facing structural and financial difficulties a situation which has been
worsen by the fall in the prices of its crops in the world market. Likewise, the
board chair expressed regrets that the very low prices in the world
market is a challenge C.D.C can not change. He said a kilo of rubber
today sells at between 750 to 800FCFA francs in the world market down
from 2500 and 3000FCFA Francs some years back. He explained that C.D.C
management will carry on the restructuring plans by replanting the aging
crops and diversifying production to include crops like cassava and
maize while waiting for the prices to return to normal in the world
market. During a visit to the C.D.C banana nursery at Esoke, Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi
was marvelled at the huge project which habors some 350000 nursed banana
ready for planting on the 300 hecter piece of land. However the general
manager of C.D.C ,Frank Ngoni Njie expressed regret that the banana
nursery and plantation is facing a serious problem due to the lack of
electricity to pump water for irrigation. He said power failure
causes by ENEO is causing great loss to the corporation. He nevertheless
added that C.D.C is now considering to provide electric power
generators to solve the problem while negotiating other options.
