Polycarpe Abah Abah, former Minister of the Economy and Finance was sentenced on Thursday, November 3, 2016 to 20 years imprisonment by the Special Criminal Court in Yaounde. Polycarpe Abah Abah, who served as Minister for Economy and Finance from 2004-2008, was jailed for his role in the mismanagement of TV license tax evaluated at 1,158,352,393 FCFA.
Arrested in 2008, as part of Operation Sparrow Hawk - an anti corruption operation launched by the head of state, the story of Polycarpe remains a tangled tale, a combined comedy and a tragedy.
His first conviction was in June 12, 2012, when the former minister was sentenced to 6 years in prison for "attempted escape." The regime claimed he was caught by police while trying to escape from the high security prison in Kondengui. He was again handed a 25 years hail term on January the 13th, 2015 for the diversion of 4.9 billion CFA francs. The Thursday, November 3, 2016, conviction was his third.
