Bello Bouba Sacks Mayor of His Party for Supporting Tchiroma’s Party

The national president of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), Bello Bouba Maigari, signed decisions on March 5, 2018 reorganizing his party in the Benoue division that has been shaken by a crisis since July 2017.

The decision of Belo Bouba suspends three executive members of the UNDP party from their positions. The victims include the Mayor of Pitoa, Ousmanou Aman Sa’aly, (member of the UNDP Political Bureau and Central Committee, UNDP Section President of Pitoa), Bouhari Ibrahima (Section President of the Youth Movement of Pitoa) and Mrs Fadimatou Kingui (President of the UNDP Women's Movement in Pitoa).

The same decision also appoints Adamou Abdoulaye to the UNDP Central Committee and as chairman of the UNDP section of Pitoa. For her part, Mrs Madjele Rachele has been appointed President of the UNDP Women's Movement of Pitoa and Yaouba Diwa, President of the UNDP Youth Movement of Pitoa.

TCR gathered from concordant sources that Bello Bouba has not justified his decision to reorganize the UNDP party in the district of Pitoa located about ten kilometers from Garoua, main city of the North region of Cameroon.

However, sources close to the National president of the party hinted that the decision is premised on the fact that victims of the recent decision paid allegiance to the party of Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Cameroon National Salvation Front (CNSF) during its recent rally in Garoua.

“When Issa Tchiroma was in Garoua last February, the Mayor of Pitoa and all councilors went to his home saying that they wanted to join the CNSF. Minister Issa received them and has planned a big rally in the coming days to formally present those people who have resigned from the UNDP for the CNSF”, said a close friend of Bello Bouba who preferred anonymity.

The anonymous source added that this move is a big blow to the president of the UNDP.

According to a French language online publication CIN, the sacked mayor of Pitoa reacted to Bello Bouba’s decision by saying that he had been waiting for it a long time ago.

“It does not surprise me. All members of the UNDP branch office in Pitoa had resigned. It is normal that they are suspended. But, Bello violated party texts by naming new members to the section. The members of the section office must be voted by the base and not appointed by the national party president. Bello does not know what to do because the UNDP no longer has a base in Pitoa. Bello is back to the wall,” said Mayor of Pitoa, Ousmanou Aman Sa'Aly alias Yerima Dewa.

The Mayor also confirmed that the entire Pitoa municipal council had rallied behind the Cameroon National Salvation Front during its recent rally.
