The police station in Muyuka (South West region) was attacked last Thursday by armed and unidentified individuals. According to reports, they surprised the police on guard, who fled during the assault.
The individuals who carried out the attack ransacked the premises of the police station and released four detainees. They mostly carried weapons, and sources said that about 12 weapons were carried away.
We also learnt that amongst the weapons carted away were nine automatic pistols (PA) and three light automatic rifles (Fal).
There are indications that the motive of the attackers could be to set persons that were detained in the detention unit free. According to a source, the assailants stormed the Muyuka police station with the use of a vehicle and started shooting immediately they got there. TCR gathered because of their numerical strength and weapons used, the police on duty at the time were forced to flee to safety.
Security was immediately beefed up around the police station after the attack that did not record any loss of lives or casualties.
Note that Muyuka subdivision has been a hotspot of firefights between armed Anglophone separatist fighters and security and defence forces of Cameroon. The repeated fighting mainly in Munyenge, has led to a humanitarian crisis as homes have been burnt and persons displaced.
