Two alleged crooks, Talla B., 31 years old and Foka D., 46 years old, were presented yesterday, July 3rd, 2018, by the elements of the Regional Directorate of Judicial Police in Bonanjo, Douala.
According to our source, they extorted 12.5 million FCFA last month from a Burkinabe diplomat (who requested anonymity). TCR gathered that initially, the diplomat only wanted to sell his vehicle.
The suspects contacted him through the phone number he had written at the bottom of the inscription "For Sale" and stuck to the windows of his car. Once they met, the issue of buying the car was discarded.
The diplomat was offered a “golden opportunity” by four individuals, who claimed they were going to multiply his money. According to them, they were going to convert fake bank notes into genuine ones with the help of a very expensive product.
For ten days then, the quartet maintained pressure on the diplomat and scammed him of the sum of 12.5 million FCFA in several tranches.
Being too greedy, the scammers still tried to scam the diplomat of the sum of 4.8 Million FCFA even after he had filed a complaint against them. This then led to the arrest of two of them last week.
At press time, the other two were still at large and investigations have continued to track them down.
