Kousseri: Drunk Soldier Kills 2 Persons with Grenade in a Bar

On the night of Sunday 24 to Monday, June 25, 2018, a drunken soldier fired an offensive grenade at a bar in Kousseri after an altercation, resulting to the deaths of two people, including a soldier.
According to our source, 13 other persons were seriously wounded in the incident.
A statement issued by the Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo, and carried by Cameroon Tribune of June 26, 2018, indicates that Corporal Salman Ndam Bouba, serving with the 42nd Battalion of Mora's motorized infantry, unleashed an offensive grenade that he illegally carried into the said bar.
 The grenade then exploded and killed two persons in the tavern. The deceased include Corporal Adjia Géremi on duty at the 41st Motorized Infantry Battalion of Maltam, and Mrs. Marie Thérèse Koube, the owner of the bar.
13 other people were injured, reports said.
Joseph Beti Assomo, reported that “the wounded, including three serious cases were evacuated to Kousseri District Hospital. Corporal Salman Ndam Bouba and his sidekick Corporal Okou Ossake, on duty at the 41st Motorized Infantry Battalion Maltam, are currently being held in custody at the Kousseri Gendarmerie Company,” said Joseph Beti Assomo.
TCR learnt that after the tragic incident, the following measures were immediately taken: opening of a judicial inquiry by the gendarmerie under the authority of the Commissioner of Government to the Far North Military Tribunal; initiation of a procedure for delisting from the Defense Forces of the two incriminated soldiers in accordance with the provisions of the general rules of procedure in force.
The minister delegate to the presidency in charge of defense also used the opportunity to transmit words of condolences from the head of state, chief of the armed forces, to the affected families.
