The security situation in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon that have been plagued by a serious socio-political crisis for more than a year now, has deteriorated considerably in the space of a few months.
The Anglophone separatists, whose struggle for the independence of the two English speaking regions has led to the unrest, were at the initial phase of it, attacking symbols of the state, but now direct their attacks towards elements of the defense forces that have apparently become their prime targets.
