Suspected Rebel Group Emerges in the South West Region

There is growing tension in the South West Region of Cameroon especially in the towns of Limbe, Tiko and Buea as an armed group that called itself as the “Defenders of Ambazonia” (DA) has threatened to launch explosive on the campuses of schools in the South West Region that did not respect the strike action of teachers in their schools. TCR learnt from various reliable sources that “Defenders of Ambazonia” is an armed group with a scorch earth vision aimed at annihilating any person or groups that sort to stand on the way of the current Anglophone call for independence. Our source said the group’s target of Institutions followed persistent attempts by UB Vice Chancellor, Nalova Lyonga and Father Nke of the Catholic University of Buea to intimidate students to return to classes – a tactic the group claims is aimed at destabilizing the ongoing strike action of Teachers and Lawyers.Read more »
