Unrest in Anglophone Cameroon: University of Buea Takes Over Bamenda

When Bamenda was on its peak with the street protest from different groups, the entire South West Region was enjoying relative calm. But Monday 28th of November, 2016 saw a different twist in the town of Buea as students of the University of Buea took to the street protesting against decisions taken by the authorities of the institution relating to the ongoing strike by teachers. The protest on the campus of the University of Buea that saw the arrest of over 100 students, many tortured and some taken to the SONARA torture camp in Limbe came as a result of a communiqué that was issued by the Vice Chancellor of the university of Buea by name Professor Nalova that students were to begin their Continues Assessement (CA) exam from Monday November 28, 2016 which was to engulf various departments of the university mindless of the unrest. Nalova’s decision to get students come in for the CA wasn’t taken kindly especially when lecturers of the university together with other Anglophone teachers of the two English-speaking regions of the nation were currently on a sit-in strike.
