Anglophone Crisis: Military Spokesman Reacts to Allegations of Escape of Army General

The spokesman for the Cameroonian army, Colonel Didier Badjeck, has issued a statement rubbishing allegations that a general of the Cameroonian army had fled the country because of the ongoing Anglophone crisis.
Recall that early this week, rumours made rounds on social media and elsewhere, that General Agha Robinson Ndong, and his wife, had fled the country to the United States because of the raging crisis in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon.
The same rumours claimed that the general fled the country because of certain abuses that have been leveled against security and defence forces within the context of the said crisis.
But, according to the spokesperson of Cameroon’s army, General Agha Robinson Ndong, has never abandoned his post at the newly created 5th Military Region in Bamenda, Northwest region.
“Fake news reports that Brigadier General Agha Robison Ndong, commander of the 5th Joint Military Region (Remia5) in Bamenda, fled to the United States of America with his wife,” said the army spokesperson.
According to him, the “fake” news was the handiwork of Anglophone separatists and he also added that, no one was going to oppose the republican sense of the well commanded forces.
The head of the Communication Division at the Ministry of Defence, Colonel Didier Badjeck, made the refutation on Monday.
According to reports, General Ndong's wife has been in the United States only for medical attention.
Even if TCR cannot authenticate this, there have been many allegations of defections within the Cameroonian military ever since the Anglophone crisis morphed into an armed insurrection. However, no official document or statement has ever reported or confirmed such allegations.
