The body of one of 2 Gendarmerie officers who were kidnapped by Ambazonia fighters in Ikassa Village in Mundemba, Ndian Division, has been discovered in water around the village.
TCR learnt that heavy fighting took place in the village on the 27th of February when gunmen believed to be about 50 in number, attacked a gendarmerie post and kidnapped 2 gendarmes.
TCR also learnt the catholic mission parish was attacked therein as defence forces clashed with Ambazonia fighters. 3 Ambazonian fighters were killed in the gunfire exchange and 2 gendarmerie officers were reported missing.
On Friday March 2, the body of one of the gendarmerie officers was discovered in a small stream in the village. TCR also learnt that the attack on defence forces was serious such that backup was called for intervention.
Our source also hinted that the number of military staff that died in the attack was still not known at press time on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, another attack that took place in Mundemba on Sunday during a wedding ceremony of a soldier in the village left 2 suspected Ambazonia fighters arrested.
They were arrested in possession of Guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. They were taken to a gendarmerie station in the village for detention.
