Two Tunisians Abducted in Southwest Region of Cameroon

Reports say that an armed group in the South West Region last Thursday March 15, abducted two Tunisians working on a road construction project for a Tunisian company in the South West Region of Cameroon.

TCR learnt that their abduction was confirmed by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry on Monday March 19, 2018.

“A crisis unit has been set up at the ministry which has been in contact with the Cameroonian authorities to work for the release of the kidnapped Tunisians as soon as possible," the ministry said in a statement.

The two Tunisians were abducted "by an armed group in the southwest of Cameroon on March 15," the ministry added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping however, accusing fingers are pointing at secessionists that have been carrying out abductions in parts of the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon that are plagued by a socio-political crisis.

Their abduction happened days before that of the board chairman of the Cameroon General certificate of education board, albeit he had been released before press time on Tuesday.
