After Appointments of 30 Senators: SDF to Play hand Clapper Role in Senate

President Paul Biya has completed the list of 70 senators that were voted in the last March 25 senatorial elections of Cameroon.
The electoral law of the country empowers him to appoint 30 senators within a maximum of 10 days after the proclamation of results of the 70 elected senators by the constitutional council.
He did the appointment last Thursday through a decree.
Three senators were appointed from each of the regions to complete the list of 100. President Paul Biya, appointed 4 senators from the opposition parties, mostly parties that are part of the government or have supported the CPDM in elections like the UNDP of Belo Bouba Maigari, MDR of Dakole Daisala, and CNSF of Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

The remaining 24 were then appointed from his CPDM party. From the North West region, President Biya appointed 3 senators all from the CPDM. Madam Regina Mundi, who headed the senatorial list of CPDM in the region, found favour in the eyes of the head of state.
The former president of North West Fons’ union, Fon Chafah of Bagolan, was also appointed. Fon Chafah Isaac of Bagolan, has constantly witnessed crisis in his village after his villagers decided to oust him and enthrone someone else.
The crisis in his native Bangolan reportedly led to loss of human lives, and destruction of properties worth several millions.
This crisis in the village did not however stop the head of state from bestowing his confidence on the Fon.
Meanwhile, another Fon of the region was also reappointed. Fon Doh Ganyonga III of Bali Nyonga, will have to serve another term in the senate.
In the Southwest region, 100 year old NFon Victor Mukete, a man accused by many French language newspaper of having sided with secessionists, won the trust of the head of state as he was also reappointed.
He was appointed alongside Chief Anja Simon Onjwo and Leke Besongoh Philip to complete the CPDM list of the Southwest region.
Contrary to widespread speculations by some media organs that the head of state Paul Biya, could appoint the national Chairman of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party to the senate, not even a single militant of the SDF party has found favour in the eyes of President Biya.
According to a presidential decree appointing thirty members of the senate which was read over state media, the head of state did appoint members of the opposition party but only from those that are allies of the CPDM party.
Recall that prior to the appointments; speculations were rife that the SDF chief scribe could land an appointment even as the president of the senate especially at a time when Anglophones are protesting marginalization by the francophone dominated government.
It therefore means that the next 5 years in the senate will almost be an all CPDM house. SDF needed just 3 senators to make 10 to be able to object decisions of the senate.
The boos and jeers as well as the singing and dancing that the SDF performed last year in the upper house of parliament in order to cause it discuss Anglophone crisis, may never be seen again at least for the next four years or so.
The 7 senators from the North West region representing the SDF will be in parliament just to clap bills through without any powers to object.
However, prior to the election of senators, the SDF had told voters that no matter the number they ended up with, they were still going to do their best to see that decisions that favour all Cameroonians are taken.
