Fru Ndi Reacts Bitterly to Allegations He was Eyeing Senate

The national Chairman of the prime opposition party in Cameroon, Social Democratic Front (SDF), has refuted in the strongest of terms, allegations that he was recently spotted in the presidency of the republic of Cameroon.
In its latest issue of Monday, April 09, 2018, a weekly magazine Jeune Afrique, reports that the chairman of the SDF was recently seen at the presidential palace to discuss the conditions of his appointment as Senator.

The magazine wrote, "If the senatorial elections were largely won by the presidential party in Cameroon, John Fru Ndi, leader of the Social Democratic front (SDF, opposition), could well count among the senators appointed not the head of state. John Fru Ndi, the leader of the SDF is expected to be appointed senator. On April 4, he was discreetly received at the Etoudi palace, when the Constitutional Council proclaimed the results of the March 25 senatorial elections: the party of the head of state won 63 of the 70 seats at stake, the SDF only 7 seats. In accordance with the law, Paul Biya, the Head of State, will appoint 30 additional senators. While Anglophones claim the presidency of a major institution, will Fru Ndi get that of the Senate?
While speaking in a phone interview with a Douala based television, the Chairman of SDF party in reaction to the report of Jeune Afrique magazine denied that he recently was at the Etoudi palace.
He said, “I have not been to Etoudi palace for a long time. It's not true what this newspaper says. I never exchanged with Biya or his collaborators about the senatorial election.”
According to Ni Jhon Fru Ndi, the last time he met with President Paul Biya was when the indomitable Lions were at the Unity Palace to present the trophy of the Africa Cup of Nations that they won in Gabon in February 2017.
Since then, “I have never met with President Paul Biya,” he said.
Fru Ndi went further to state that after giving way to a younger militant of his party to contest in the upcoming presidential elections, there was no way he could turn around to surreptitiously struggle for the presidency of the senate.
He also challenged whoever so him at the Unity Palace to come out and show proof of that allegation. According to him, the last time he granted an interview to Jeune Afrique was about 17 years back.
Fru Ndi rather felt that he could begin to doubt most of the things published by Jeune Afrique because of this article it has reported about him.
Asked whether he can accept Paul Biya's appointment as a senator, Fru Ndi responded that, “when the president calls me, I will get back to the press.”
He however was not appointed as had been speculated by Jeune Afrique.
It should be recalled that the SDF party just got 7 of the 70 seats that were up for grabs at the March 25, 2018 senatorial elections. The ruling CPDM party won the lion’s share of the seats in the upper house of parliament (63), thereby leaving other political parties with nothing.
