Eto’o Finally Buries Speculations about his Return to National Team


The erstwhile skipper of the national team of Cameroon, Samuel Eto’o has finally laid to rest controversies about speculations of his return to the national team especially in recent weeks.
In an interview on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at France Football magazine, Cameroonian footballer Samuel Eto'o gave a definitive answer on the possibility of his return to the Lions’ den as a player during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that is to be organized by the five time champions of the continental tournament.

This speculation had filled newspaper pages as well as made rounds on talk show programs of Radio and TV stations in Cameroon and Africa at large last February, when Samuel Eto'o was seen with Dieudonné Happi, President of the Fecafoot Normalization Committee.
Asked about speculations of a possible Samuel Eto’o return to the national team recently, another former indomitable Lion, Patrick Mboma who currently is a consultant with Canal+ said, the return could be possible since Eto’o is still active.
However, Samuel Eto’o has categorically stated that he will not be rejoining the national team again. There is “a generation coming, it brilliantly won the last AFCON. It's up to them to shine (...) It's definitive,” he insists.
The Konyaspor striker in (Turkey) nevertheless sounded reassuring of his presence around these rising stars of Cameroonian football. “During the 2019 AFCON, I will be in the stands, I will give advice, but I will not take the place of a young man who dreams of giving a title to Cameroon,” he concludes.
Samuel Eto'o, in the same interview, also highlighted the role he played in the mediation between Cameroon and CAF, about the organization of the next Africa Cup of Nations.
He also gave some advice to young football players such as Franco-Cameroonian Kylian Mbappe and the Belgian Eden Hazard.
