According to recent statistics from the Ministry of Transport, 1,200 people die on the road each year in Cameroon. According to organisations for the fight against road accident related deaths, this huge numbers are due to certain factors like driving while drunk, constant fatigue of drivers caused by pressure from bosses of travel agencies, poor state of roads and vehicles, amongst others.
According to statics, these road accidents are caused by “70% human error, 20% mechanical failure, 10% because of road infrastructures”, avowed the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngallè Bibéhè. He made his revelation last Wednesday, while he visited companies and technical control centers to ensure compliance with the rules of road safety.
“In the transport agencies, we passed the message of the imperative need to comply with regulations and recycle drivers,” explained the Minister, before adding: "Certificates of conformity issued by the technical control services automobile should not be complacent. A category A driving license cannot be valid for transportation that requires another category,” he said.
