Reports from the Southwest region of Cameroon say that a police commissioner has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
The police commissioner was abducted last weekend at the entrance into the chief town of the Southwest region.
The abduction of Commissioner Tazisong Christopher, prompted security forces to swing into action as they mounted barricades at the key points of the city with the hope of retrieving their abducted boss.
Areas such as Mile 16 and Muea, were particularly cordoned off by security operatives and search operations conducted.
According to reports, Commissioner Christopher was driven to an unknown destination after his abduction.
Sources confirmed the presence of an important security device in Tole, a locality not far from Buea. Security forces reportedly received information certifying the presence of suspected separatist fighters in that location. They allegedly arrested several people who did not present their identification cards at the time of the checks.
The abduction of the police commissioner of Muea, comes just a week after that of a police inspector in Boyo division of the Northwest region.
A video of the abducted police inspector Patrice Dinguegue, was circulated on social media recently by his abductors who are believed to be acting in loyalty to the cause of Anglophone separatists.
In the video, the kidnapped police inspector confirmed that he had been abducted and that he had been fairly treated.
He however made an appeal to the government of Cameroon through the video. “I ask the government to do something so that we remain united,” said Inspector Dinguegue.
Abductions of security operatives and state officials seem to be the new strategy adopted by Anglophone separatists to push on with their cause.
