CAMEROON: Court Finally Hears Case of Ama Muna against Her Bother Akere Muna

The former Minister of Arts and Culture was able to obtain after two attempts, the opening of a hearing on the estate of his father Salomon Tandeng Muna.
French language newspaper Mutations of June 8, 2018 has reported that the Court of First Instance of Bonanjo in Douala has responded favourably to the application for a probe into the disagreement over the inheritance of their father by erstwhile Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna, kid sister to presidential aspirant, Akere Muna.

Recall that Ama Tutu Muna, had previously unsuccessfully petitioned two courts in Yaoundé to hear the issue. These courts included the Mfoundi High Court and the Yaoundé Court of First Instance in the administrative center. She wanted these courts to rule on the accusation of “forgery” in relation to the acquisition of their late father’s inheritance by her brother, Akere Muna.
“The civil application is the legal way to retract a court decision made ultimately by the same court; however, it is common knowledge that the Court of First Instance is not a body that can make a final decision in this matter”, reported Mutations.
To better understand the case before the courts by Ama Tutu Muna, it should be recalled that the latter contests the judgment of heredity No. 399 rendered July 18, 2002. She claims that it was passed without her knowledge. And that she learned of the existence of the judgment of heredity, February 19, 2018 when she initiated the procedure of opening of succession rights before the Mfoundi Court of First instance.
So, petitioned on May 28, 2018 by the former Minister of Arts and Culture (MINAC), the Court of First Instance of Bonanjo decided on June 7, 2018 to grant the request of the complainant. However, Mutations reports that going by the documents presented by Bernard Muna, representative of the family, the decision of the Court defies logic.
The elder brother of the former Minister of Agriculture explained that the hereditary judgment in question had been obtained to facilitate the obtaining of a credit in the books of Afriland First Bank, Bamenda agency.
