The Governor of the Northwest region has paid a visit to Batibo as conflicts resulting from the Anglophone crisis intensify in the area.
Adolf Lele Lafrique, on Saturday, undertook a visit to Batibo and Widikum subdivisions in Momo Division. His visit was to assess the effectiveness of the ban on circulation of motorbikes in Batibo which according to him, was the means of transportation adopted by Ambazonia fighters during their attacks against security and defence forces.
Accompanied by the Senior Divisional Officer for Momo, the governor visited Ambo village in Batibo subdivision where the Divisional Officer for Batibo and the Northwest Regional Delegate for Social Affairs were kidnapped and their vehicles burnt.
A military base had been established therein to reinforce security.
Governor Lele Lafrique, visited the military accommodations and gave words of encouragement to the defence forces and also spoke to some traditional and religious authorities.
He called on all to pray for peace in that area and the country as a whole and to report suspected individuals in their localities.
The governor also proceeded to Widikum where he held a similar meeting with Fons, religious and opinion leaders therein, at the Divisional Office of Widikum. He reechoed the same call to the people and further called on the reactivation of activities of vigilante groups.
The governor’s visit to Batibo happened at a time Ambazonia fighters had wedged a guerrilla war on security forces.
2 gendarmes were killed in the same locality of Batibo over the weekend after one had been beheaded in a school therein.
The new minister of territorial administration says about 27 security officers have been killed through the use of motorbikes.
