Road Accident: Truck of Dangote Cement Company Kills 2 People

The accident occurred in a locality called Bamoungoum located between Mbouda-Bamenda Highways.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck and its conductor (motor-boy) died on the spot. TCR gathered that the truck lost its brakes while descending a hill known as Bakassa and started travelling at an uncontrollable speed.
In the crazy run, the vehicle made a thumping collision with a building beside the road and emptied its load into a nearby valley.
The two occupants of the truck, the driver and conductor succumbed to the serious injuries sustained from the crash as they both died on the spot.
Residents of the area where the crash occurred told TCR that that was not the first time that such an accident was occurring at that place.

Sometime in November 2015, a similar accident occurred there leading to the deaths of two persons. The accident was caused by vehicle that was parked beside the road.
A speed break mounted by gendarmes on the same portion of the road is yet to serve its purpose as the specter of accidents on this spot is yet to be rolled back.

Cameroonians have always blamed most accidents on the degrading state of roads in the country even though the recklessness of drivers is not completely ruled out.
Statistics show that starting July 2017, more than a hundred persons died as a result of road accidents within 3 months that year.
In 2018, scores of persons have lost their lives to road accidents already.
In 2016, the government through the ministry of transport revealed that over 2000 people died as a result of road accidents and that about 4000 others were injured.
The statistics further showed that government also lost FCFA 84.6 billion in 2016 just because of road accidents and that, that amount accounts for about 2% of the state budget.
Experts from the ministry of transport say 80% of road accidents in Cameroon are caused by human errors, particularly over-speeding; against only 20% for causes related to the state of the road network. But, car owners complain that the bad state of roads cause the rapid breakdown of cars thereby rendering them vulnerable to accidents.
