Cameroon’s former minister of social affairs who was ousted from government following the October 2, 2015 cabinet reshuffle is reported to have fled the country and is currently seeking refuge in Quebec in Canada.
According to the French language newspaper Le Messager of Friday March 23, 2018, the ex-minister’s decision to flee alongside her English speaking husband and children was inspired by her intention to avoid being hunted by the sparrow operation.
The same paper reports that for several times, Catherine Bakang Mbock had severally been identified with mismanagement accusations during her reign at the social affairs ministry.
The paper quotes some of the scandals she had such as, “the scandal of the supply of office equipment to 100 social centers and schools valued at nearly 100 million FCFA.”
The newspaper also adds to this, projects such as, “Efficiency and effectiveness of basic social services for Cameroonian populations living below the poverty line,” and the "street children" initiative, or still the convoluted management of the Sygipes (computer system of integrated management of the personnel of the State and the payroll).
We also learned that a group of social workers had pointed an accusing finger on the former minister Catherine Bakang Mbock, for awarding the PPTE project at the Borstal Institute of Buea worth 51 million FCFA to her husband in the month of May 2008.
Other unpaid debts have been accumulated since the beginning of the 2000s. Management calls for patience. LM
