France has once more expressed its immense fear about the current socio-political tensions plaguing the two English speaking regions of Cameroon (Northwest and Southwest).
Even though the head of state Paul Biya in one of his speeches claimed that the situation in the two troubled regions of the country was returning to normal, the war between separatists and security and defence forces of Cameroon seems to be intensifying with time.
Secessionist fighters seem to have also resorted to hostage takings besides assassinations as one of the mains of trying to achieve their objectives.
Given the degrading security situation over the days in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon, France has once again asked its citizens in Cameroon not to take any risk by traveling to the South West and North West regions of the country.
"Travelling to the Northwest and South West regions is now discouraged to French citizens, unless imperative. The security situation in the English-speaking regions of North West and South West has deteriorated since the end of 2017. Several kidnappings of officials and civilians have taken place. Foreigners in these regions were also targeted ...” explained Ambassador Gilles Thibault in a message posted on the website of the French Embassy in Yaoundé.
In the French community in Cameroon, a new security map of the Cameroonian territory circulates.
Recall that this becomes the third time that the French embassy is asking French citizens in Cameroon to avoid travelling to the crisis hit Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon as part of security measures that are aimed at preventing them from becoming victims of the crisis.
Nonetheless, France has in several occasions prescribed dialogue as the ultimate means of dealing with the perennial crisis.
France is however not the only country that has warned its citizens against travelling to the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon. The American embassy in Yaoundé has also issued similar warnings to US citizens living in Cameroon.
