According to reports, the former Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Martin Belinga Eboutou still finds it hard to digest the fact that he was thrown out of government by his longtime boss, President Paul Biya.
According to Reperes of Wednesday March 28, 2018, the ouster of Belinga Eboutou began with his departure to Switzerland for health reasons. TCR learnt that at the time, he looked worn out due to recurrent health disorders and that he also showed signs of fatigue.
We also learnt from Reperes that his boss Paul Biya, had advised him to take time off and get healed and regain fitness especially with presidential elections in anticipation.
According to reports, while in Switzerland for medical attention, Martin Belinga Eboutou received a phone call from another top insider in the unity palace telling him a few days to the recent cabinet reshuffle that the head of state had finalized and sealed a document bearing his new government. The insider also added that his name (Martin Belinga) was not in the document.
Destabilized by this news, Martin Belinga Eboutou decided to take the available flight back to Cameroon. But that day, March 1, a violent snow caused every flight to be grounded at the Geneva airport. Though displeased with the situation, he was forced to spend an extra night in the Swiss city.
However, he did not have a rest as he kept multiplying calls back in Cameroon with his informant who kept briefing him on the actions of the head of state.
And on March 2, 2018, the sacking of the man whom many before then described as the president’s closest aide, was confirmed with the announcement over state media, of his successor, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo.
TCR gathered that during transfer of service on March 5, 2018, Belinga Eboutou refused to release the office for his successor to take possession of the post. Even though TCR cannot independently say why, there are allegations that he wanted his successor to sign a document certifying the good conduct of his office’s account, and threatened not to handover the office if he did not sign.
We learnt that because his successor was avoiding a clash with him, he immediately left the office and that it was Belinga’s Deputy Oswald Baboke that offered his own office to Samuel Mvondo Ayolo.
However, he subsequently quitted the office while exuding his frustration and anger. TSM
