Calm has yet to fully return to Bafut in the Mezam division of the Northwest region following an attack on a school therein last Friday May 11, 2018.
It is alleged that the attack by Anglophone separatist fighters led to destruction of public and private property.
Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Bafut was last Friday a flashpoint of an assault by unidentified armed individuals, according to sources at the regional delegation of national security in the Northwest. The sources reported that the armed assailants particularly targeted the staff of the school.
“Arriving at school on Friday morning, the attackers fired several shots in the air and this caused panic. The terrified students ran in all directions. Teachers were sequestered and beaten up. Vehicles of the teachers destroyed,” our source said.
The assailants also carried out the same raid in Government Technical High School Bafut.
Security operatives however succeeded to restore order and quiet in the town by neutralizing the attack, a source in Bafut reported.
No deaths were recorded in the assault by the separatist fighters. However, one person was shot dead by security forces in Bafut in their quest to neutralize the attack by unidentified gunmen. At press time, the circumstances that led to the killing of the bike rider had yet to be officially established but anonymous sources claimed that he opted to run when he was ordered to stop for checks by security operatives. And that it was while running that he was shot, our source added.
TCR also gathered that several motorbikes were set ablaze during the topsy-turvy.

In reaction to Friday’s turmoil in Bafut, which turmoil led to serious destructon of properties, death and torture, the number one man of the region, Adolphe LELE L’Afrique has issued a release, banning the circulation of Motorbikes in Bafut Subdivision including private owned Bikes, till further notice.
The Governor however said bikes of civil servants and especially military and those with authorization will be allowed to circulate.
Mr. LELE L’Afrique has warned that any defaulter will be dealt with according to the law.
