Cholera Epidemic Hits North Region Again!

The regional delegate for public health has just granted an interview to the government daily Cameroon Tribune.
According to reports, the interview covers the current situation of the cholera epidemic reported in the region.
"It all started on May 18 with the notification of four cases at the Mayo-Oulo district, including two health areas Guirviza and Ndoumo, which are border areas of Nigeria. Among these cases, two were collected and examined at the Centre Pasteur of Garoua, and proved to be choleric vibrio positive. So we were able to handle these four cases without expansion,” he said.
He added, “On June 27th, we were notified about ten more cases in the health district of Golombé and in the health area of Tchontchi, where we noted the deaths of two patients who had arrived at a state of severe dehydration.
To date, the number of cases in Golombé has increased. We note 25 cases concentrated in the Chontchi health area previously reached. On July 3, we noted at Guider District level, two cases, including one who went to visit a patient who was in Golombé and who was probably infected.

Regarding the cholera situation in the northern region, Arabo Saidou stated that “three days ago, we were notified of two cases in the health district of Garoua II, in the health area of Takasko; it is a father with his child who had episodes of diarrhea. Samples were taken and sent to the centre Pasteur where rapid diagnostic tests were set up and the results are positive. Now we have to do a confirmation test.”
To prevent a spread of the epidemic, patients who were taken to health centers were treated free of charge: rapid diagnostic rehydration test, sampling and antibiotic therapy. However, about twenty cases have already been cured.
