The custodians of the culture and traditional of the Moghamo people in Batibo Subdivision, Momo Division of the Northwest Region, under the umbrella of the Moghamo Fons, have issued a strong letter to the Cameroon Government, enjoining it to speedily initiate dialogue in order to preempt the looming danger that is being nurtured by the aggrieved party.
The eleven (11) Fons forwarded the strongly worded memo to the Government on Friday, February 16, 2018, after a meeting that rallied them at the Batibo Fon’s Palace. According to sources, the top item on the agenda of the conclave was the degenerating crisis that is currently hitting the two English speaking regions of Cameroon. It was also aimed at pleading with government to stop dilly-dallying and initiate a frank and inclusive dialogue for the interest of all Cameroonians.
During the meeting, the Fons condemned in very strong terms the abduction of the Divisional Officer (DO) of Batibo, Namata Diteng. The administrator was abducted on February 11, as he went to inspect the grandstand which was being prepared to host activities marking the 52nd Youth Day celebration.
They also added that they share in the emotional and psychological trauma faced by the DO’s wife and family and hope for the quick recuperation of the administrator whose whereabouts were still unknown at the time they met.
They also challenged the population to collaborate with forces of law and order and furnish them with useful information that could lead up to the discovery of the missing administrator.
The Fons also condemned the rampant molestation of their subjects, the looting of private property, money and wanton destruction, uncertainty, and disruption of normal day to day activities including school attendance. They expressed the wish for calm to return to the Division so that the people can be able to resume their daily activities which have been stalled by insecurity in the area in recent months, so that they can continue to contribute their own quota in national development.
Meanwhile the Farmily of the said DO has for the first time reacted to the desapearance of their Brother. Douala base televisison Equanox visited the farmily menbers of the DO in Ndian division and the brother Namata Jacob express worried saying the DO was the loan bread winner of the farmily and couple for the fact that they had to organise the funeral of their father shortly after youth day. The brother cried out that he has been making efforts to get to the DO by Phone but the Phone has been perminently shutdown. He pleaded to the abductee to allow access to their brother to speak to them by phone on if he is alive or not. He also called on the Government to Multiply efforts in the search of the DO so that they can once more recover from the shock.
