Assaults by fighters loyal to Anglophone separatists against security and defence forces in Cameroon seem not to be on the wane at all as reports of new attacks keep springing up on a daily basis almost.
According to reports from Nguti in the Southwest region of Cameroon, a student-gendarme was killed therein on Sunday, while in Talangai, clashes took place between defence forces and alleged separatists.
The gendarmerie station in Nguti, on the Kumba - Mamfe axis (South West region), was the target of an attack by suspected separatist militants on Sunday (February 18th).
According to sources that spoke to reporters at the scene of the attack, the three attackers were armed and that they opened fire on Cameroon’s security elements that were on duty at the time, causing the death of Constable Degoume Jean-Claude.
In the same day, the Talangai village on the Mamfe-Bamenda axis, also recorded clashes between Cameroonian defence forces and suspected separatists. According to sources, these clashes erupted after the separatists created a checkpoint on the axis.
We gathered that they conducted checks on vehicles and caused a huge traffic that covered several meters.
Our source also reported that after the intervention of the defence forces, traffic returned to normal. At press time on Tuesday, no official statement on deaths or casualties from this fighting had been made and TCR cannot independently and authoritatively say if there were any.
However, there are indications that the clashes between separatist fighters and security and defence forces instigated another migration by locals therein in fear of reprisals from the warring factions
