CPDM Municipal Councilors Threaten to Vote for Opposition in Upcoming Senatorial Elections

A French language newspaper Repères of Wednesday March 7, 2018 has reported that municipal councilors of the CPDM party in the East region of Cameroon are threatening to vote for the opposition party in the upcoming senatorial elections billed for March 25, 2018.
According to the newspaper, the grudge of the CPDM municipal councilors from this part of the country is premised on the “total absence from the ground of these senators during their five years of mandate”.
They have thus threatened to vote for the opposition especially the NUDP and the SDF, we learnt.
“We are waiting for Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) to publish the lists of candidates for our political party in this election to take a stand,” they said.

This threat is all the more present because, according to them, “the news coming from Yaoundé fuels their plans”.
According to them, the administrative body of this political party chose to renew the same candidates. A source in the regional commission of investiture set up by the CPDM central committee, argues that “the two lists will be merged”, hence the ire of the electoral college of the Eastern Region, perhaps read in the newspaper.
Their reaction to that has been categorical. “We are ready to punish the party hierarchy if the rumoured choices are confirmed,” said councilors of the municipality of Messamena.
