Death Snatches Veteran Journalist Chris Forgwe

The media family in Bamenda and Cameroon at large is in anguish following the sudden death of one of theirs, Christopher Forgwe.

‘Daddy Chris’, as he was fondly called, was discovered dead in his house in Ngomgham, Mankon, Bamenda on Friday March 9, 2018. According to colleagues of the fallen hero, Daddy Chris had gone out of public view two days before the awful discovery.

His unusual disappearance from public life had provoked curiosity amongst colleagues and family members; which curiosity led them to the house of the journalism virtuoso where he was found lifeless.

In posthaste, a burial was then organized for the celebrated media icon in his native Njindom, in Momo division of the Northwest region, given that his corpse was already undergoing decay.

Before his death, Chris Forgwe, worked for one of Bamenda’s most admired radio stations Foundation Radio, where he occupied the position of Broadcast Advisor. He had also served as Station manager for the same media outfit and presented a couple of programs such as ‘Music of the Masters’ and ‘Who is who in Business and the Professions’, which caught the admiration of listeners.

The ease, with which the fallen radio host flowed in the English language, stunned every listener and his blockbuster write-ups in some programs of the radio, enticed everyone willy-nilly.

Before joining this privately owned media organ (Foundation Radio) Daddy Chris, had worked with state broadcaster, the then Radio Cameroon in the 80s.

Throughout his professional life, Daddy Chris played the role of a mentor superbly, and helped in quickly refining cub reporters that were just cutting their teeth in the journalism profession.

The fact that he proofed knowledgeable in every topic that came up for discussion; showed proof of a man close to a genius. 

Simply put it, Chris Forgwe, was an inspiration to everyone he worked with (including this journalist).

His salient love for photography and painting, remain two of his widely acclaimed and memorable hallmarks.

Social media has been awash with tributes to this unrivaled radio host who undoubtedly left an indelible legacy in the media world.

Daddy Chris leaves behind a vast family and colleagues to mourn him.
