Ambazonia Gets Admission into an International Organization

The battle of keeping Cameroon one and indivisible and that of breaking Cameroon into 2 parts have reached their heights.
While the government of Cameroon on the one hand is making sure that any effort is not spared to jealously safeguard the country’s unity, Anglophone separatists whose main objective is to see that the two Anglophone regions breakaway from the rest of Cameroon, remain relentless in their struggle.
This conflict of interest has plunged the two opposing camps into a serious crisis which is fast deteriorating into an armed insurrection as separatist fighters have been staging incursions against the army of Cameroon in what they believe is “self defense”. While the fighting seems to be ongoing unabated and especially in the Southwest region which now appears to be the flashpoint of strives between government forces and those loyal to separatists, the separatists have gotten admission into an international organization known as Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) based in Geneva Switzerland. In a meeting held in Brussels on March 23-24 2018, the organization announced the addition of the new member of the organization, Southern Cameroons.

According to social media reports, the Ambazonia governing council is said to have filed an application to the organization since June 2017 and it was not until this year that the organization decided to admit this ‘unrecognized’ nation, TCR learnt.  “After a productive Presidency Meeting in Brussels, on 23-24 March 2018, UNPO is happy to announce the addition of the newest member to the organization… Southern Cameroons, represented in the UNPO by the Ambazonia Governing Council, campaign for the recognition of Ambazonia where they can exercise their political, social, and linguistic freedoms promised under international law,” the organization stated on its website.
It should be recalled that Southern Cameroons National Council which the government of Cameroon banned at the teething stage of the Anglophone crisis, had been admitted into the organization many years ago but later lost its membership due to financial reasons as well as for the fact that the struggle for independence of Southern Cameroons was not popular back home. It was only after the outburst of the Anglophone crisis that generated different and several protest marches across the world, that the organization saw reason to recognize Southern Cameroons as a nation. Amidst this novelty, the popular question that now overwhelms the minds of many who care is of what importance this recognition is to Anglophone separatists. According to sources, this organization has worked with nations in the world that have gained full recognition and are full nations during their struggle for independence.
It trains member organizations on how to effectively advocate their courses. UNPO, upholds and promotes democracy, the respect for human, civil and political rights, the universal right to Self-determination, and also fosters the attainment of autonomy in what is usually a complex, and often long process for the recognition of states within the international community and the United Nations. The organisation provides an avenue for peoples worldwide not yet represented at the United Nations to interact, share and gain knowledge and experiences from each other, and join efforts to push for their Self-determination quest worldwide. Some former members who have attained sovereignty through collaboration with the UNPO include; Armenia, East Timor, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia and Palau.
Meanwhile, other countries fighting for independence that are current members include  Abkhazia, Acheh, Afrikaners, Ahwazi, Assyria, Balochistan, Barotseland, Batwa, Bellah People, Brittany, Chameria, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Crimea, Tatars, District of Columbia (Washington DC), East Turkestan, Gilgit Baltistan, Haratin, Hmong, Iranian Kurdistan, Iraqi Turkmen, Kabylia, Khmer-Krom, Lezghin, Madhesh, Nagalim, Ogaden, Ogoni, Oromo, Rehoboth Basters, Savoy, Sindh, Somaliland, South Moluccas, Southern Azerbaijan, Southern Cameroons, Southern Mongolia, Sulu, Taiwan, Talysh, Tibet, Trieste (Free Territory of Trieste), West Baluchistan, West Papua, and Western Togoland.
These places are all
nations fighting for independence and international recognition.
some opinion holders have maintained that developments like this no matter how small they appear, must serve as wake up call to the government of Cameroon to redouble its efforts in causing peace and normalcy to return to the two English speaking regions of the country in order to rescue the unity of the country which has been endangered by the activities of separatists.
It also suggests that the time for the population to join the government in denouncing what it calls acts of ‘terrorism’ and to collaborate with forces of law and order to secure the peace of the nation is now.      FHM
