According to a French language daily newspaper Mutations of June 4 2018, the Mayor of Bipindi Elias Bilong, and the Divisional Officer of Bipindi subdivision, Ahmadou Mourtala of Bipindi, are strongly divided over the management of the stock of drugs offered to the people of the said subdivision.
According to the paper, the two authorities inadvertently made known their disagreements to the public on June 1, 2018, during a ceremony intended to salute the Director General (DG) of a forestry company called Smart vision, for his kind gesture.
For his part, the Divisional Officer praised the initiative of the Director General and wished that these drugs strengthen the centers, Melondo and Atogba villages.
The administrative authority said the drugs will help cure several pathologies.
“The texts provide that donations like this one are aimed at strengthening the pharmacies of health facilities. As a result, the village populations no longer suffer when they travel long distances to obtain medicines, but rather buy them on the spot. And as an administrative authority, I am here to enforce the laws of the Republic,” said Ahmadou Mourtala.
But, the Mayor of Bipindi, does not share the view of the administrative authority. For his part, he thinks that that these drugs ‘must’ be made available to the people for whom they are made, free. “Mr Divisional Officer, let me tell you what I feel in all sincerity. I do not agree. It is a gift for the people. And in this sense, these populations no longer need to pay a franc for access to remedies,” said Elias Bilong.
Traditional authorities also think that the mayor’s position be adopted. Their argument is that a gift cannot be sold to the suffering population.
