TCR has learnt that security operatives in the Southwest region of Cameroon have succeeded to track down every inmate that escaped from a Muyuka prison recently.
This happened after the operatives combed every nerighbourhood in the town to get hold of the escapees.
Recall that Wednesday, May 30, 2018, unidentified gunmen attacked Bavenga Prison in the Muyuka District (Southwest Region). During the assault, prisoners ran away. However, we weren’t able to get the exact number of inmates that escaped.
Reports said that those that attacked the prison were fighters of the Ambazonia defence force. They reportedly stormed the prison in broad daylight and took the guards on duty hostage.
A source in Muyuka told TCR that the attack on Bavenga prison has created panic among the populations therein, as they fear that the security forces might carry out arbitrary arrests. The May 30 incident recalls the attack on Muyuka police station on Thursday, May 10. Armed and unidentified individuals broke into the premises of the police station, ransacked the premises, stole arms and released four persons that were in police custody.
