Violent Rains Kill 2 Persons in Douala

Two families are in a state of total shock, pain and grief in Douala, Cameroon’s economic metropolis following the deaths of their loved ones after torrential rains caused inundations therein.
According to reports, a young man in his thirties was killed by a wall of a house that collapsed as a result of the heavy rains while he was asleep in the Cite-Sic neighbourhood in Douala.
TCR gathered that the wall of the house that collapsed was near the residence of the victim. The tragedy happened at about 2am while people were asleep.
We also gathered that in Makèpe-Missoke, one of the most damaged areas of the city, another man was killed by electrocution. According to concordant sources, the victim was surprised in his room by an inundation and that it was while he tried to unplug a cable from the electrical outlet that he was struck down.
Huge material damage is said to have been caused by the torrential rains. Roofs were reportedly carried away, electric poles blown down, homes and roads flooded.
We have learnt that Tuesday April 2, 2018 will remain an irritating memory to some inhabitants of Douala who reportedly lost all their home utensils to the heavy rains of that day.
“My furniture and my utensils have been washed away by the water,” said Helene, resident of Makèpe-Missoke.
Another victim, Jean Jacques explained how he spent the remainder of the night with a roofless house after his roofs had been blown off by a violent storm that accompanied the rains.
The rains of the night of Sunday April 1, 2018 breaking April 2, has been considered as the most violent that has ever hit Douala.
Because of the floods, it was difficult to travel through the streets of Makepe-Missoke, Bonamoussadi, and even the administrative center of Bonanjo. According to sources, even if torrential rains were expected in Douala, the magnitude of the recent one was stunning.
